A dentist from the Showa University Dentistry School demonstrates a treament on a dental robot patient .The doll can cough, sneeze, complain of pain and has a working tongue and gag reflex.
It's the crossroads of dentistry and pornography.
Japan researchers are heralding the creation of a life-like dental-bot on which aspiring dentists can train while at school.
What's interesting, though, is who collaborated on the invention.
After several failed attempts, dental docs enlisted a Japanese sex doll manufacturer to imbue the mannequin with just the right amount of realism, according to the Sun of London.
Orient Industries - maker of high-end sex dolls - fashioned the silicone android, code-named Showa Tanako 2, so it can cough, sneeze, complain of pain, and actually move its tongue.
The doll is even made with a realistic gag-reflex, The Sun said.
"We were looking for a more realistic reaction from the robot, which now we think we have achieved," said Professor Yuuji Sato
Sato works at Showa University Dental School, which commissioned the project.
"To make the robot training natural for students we called in Orient to help us with the design and create a more life-like experience," he added, according to The Sun.
Orient Industries, whose website sports several sex doll models, some clad in geisha clothing, was called on by the docs after several earlier attempts at making a life-like doll failed, The Sun said.
