Repellents and your Skin
Spring is on its way and believe it or not pretty soon you will be looking for bug repellent for yourself and possibly your kids. First and foremost if you have found that you are allergic to bug repellent it is probably because of an ingredient in it. In this case you should ask your doctor what you should use instead. Now,there are some lotions and oils that are not repellents but have certain natural ingredients in them that bugs and mosquitoes don’t like very much. But,this really doesn’t work well for some people. A lot of people have found their own remedies. If you have a remedy that you have found to be effective please feel free to open a discussion on this article and share it with us,or use the feedback form. I had heard that lemon juice was a good repellent of mosquitoes. I tried it when I was pregnant with my first child,as you can’t use any kind of or even be around any bug repellent when your pregnant. This worked rather well, but it was a bit sticky and attracted other undesirable bugs. You will have a little better chance of repelling mosquitoes if you are not near a large body of water, lake, beach or in the country. For babies I have found that the “Johnson&Johnson” suncreen especially for babies, doesn’t have any repellent in it as they are too young to use it. Their skin is too sensitive and vulnerable. However,it works excellently at keeping the bugs away as well. At least it has been my observation. Follow directions carefully when you use anything that is meant for babies. They are there for a reason. For older children there are plenty of repellents that work wonderfully. However, I have found that the ones that have the sunscreen and repellent in them don’t really work all that well,at least not on my children. Some claim to repel ticks which is really important if you do a lot of camping or if your kids are involved in scouting, picnicing in the park or if you just have a lot of trees in your backyard. You don’t have to have a dog or even live near anyone with a dog to have ticks and fleas is your yard. Squirrels carry them too! I have experienced that the ones that are just the plain repellent with no sunscreen work very well. Skin rashes may pop up if you do not wash the repellent off of you before retiring. It can get even worse if you sleep on the same bedding that you did before without washing. Please feel free to give us your opinions, remedies and what has worked for you and your family as it will benefit all of us before we find out that we needed it in the middle of summer. Please do not solicit products as they will be deleted. But product recommendations, something you have tried are always welcome. I look forward to hearing from you!
