2011 Macy's Fourth of July fireworks - pictures

Macy's 4th of July fireworks display took place on the Hudson River - here, a view from New Weehawken, NJ.

The annual fireworks display moved to the Hudson River two years ago in honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's historic voyage.
The 2011 Macy's fireworks display as seen from the Pulaski Bridge on the Brooklyn-Queens border.
This year's show design along the Hudson River celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
The night sky lit up with the show, which was also aired live on TV for those unable to view the fireworks in person.
Approximately 40,000 shells were shot up into the night sky from half a dozen barges on the river.
Organizers originally planned to surround the Statue of Liberty with barges, but city officials rejected the plan for fear of overcrowding downtown.
As of now, Macy's officials haven't confirmed where next year's display will be held.
Fourth of July revelers enjoy the view along the New Jersey shoreline.
Tourists ooh and ahh as the grand finale explodes in the sky.
