Memories of one couple's perfect wedding day turned into a nightmare after the videographer, Clayton Bennett, showed up with scars on his face - and few camera skills.
Martin and Heidi Shubrook, who live in Essex, England, sued after their wedding video came back images of guests' feet, grass and even some people who weren't at the wedding.
What it didn't have, the couple said, were images of important memories like cutting the cake, signing the register or coming out of the church, according to British newspaper The Telegraph.
That might have been, the couple alleged, because Bennett disappeared for much of the ceremony.
"What we did get was poorly filmed," Martin Shubrook said. "The angles were wonky and the framing bad, and he allowed subjects to move out of shot."
A judge ordered Bennett to pay 600 pounds ($980) to the couple - which they don't expect to see a penny of, especially since the lousy filmmaker declared bankruptcy.
But that was never the point, they said.
"I want the wider public to be aware of what happened to us," Martin Shubrook said. "It was heartbreaking. We've got no recollection of our day at all. We don't care about the money, but we've lost something from the day," Heidi Shubrook added.
The couple alleges that the videographer left out portions of speeches and actually left the camera on the ground, shooting nothing but grass.
Bennett maintained, according to the newspaper, that he had actually stayed past the time he was paid to capture the couple's special day.
"The Shubrooks expected the money they paid for the video to buy them an awful lot," he said. "I went out of my way for them. I had only been paid until 8.30 p.m., but I stayed until 10 p.m. for free. I have paid 20 pounds a month as agreed and I have records to prove that."
